Professional Experience
I started writing in the Space Division of the US Air Force. I progressed to proposal writing as a Sales Engineer & writing user manuals & marketing collateral for the consumer electronics & software industries. I then started my own technical writing & staffing company.
I have taught tech comm at California State University & served on the Board of Advisors for their tech comm certificate programs. For STC I speak at chapter, regional & international levels.
I have written articles & a quarterly column in Intercom. DICE.com, newspapers & publications such as Australian PC Magazine have quoted me.
To advance our profession I produce The LavaCon Conference on Professional Development. LavaCon attendees perform community service projects: in 2007 we rebuilt homes in New Orleans destroyed by hurricane Katrina. We gave a free workshop on how non-profit organizations apply for grant money. In 2008 we partnered with the University of Hawaii’s Marine Biology program for a beach cleanup.
