Education and other (non-STC) Professioanal affiliations, honors, awards
I earned a BA in journalism from the Pennsylvania State University, where I was a member of the University Scholars Program and the Kappa Tau Alpha Honor Society. I have continued my education by attending conferences such as STC, WritersUA, LavaCon, tekom, and DocTrain; as well as taking additional courses and certificate programs.
I have also been a member of the American Society for Training and Development, the Pittsburgh eLearning Alliance, and the Pittsburgh Regional Knowledge Management Consortium.
Professional Experience
I have been a technical communicator for over fifteen years. Like many of us, I started my career writing books and producing hard copy manuals, but I have continually moved forward and embraced new technologies and initiatives, such as online help and user assistance, web design, single-sourcing, usability, eLearning, blogging, videos, podcasting, XML, and knowledge management. And more exciting developments are on the horizon, which I plan to be a part of. When I work, I use the sum total of this knowledge to improve the user experience in a variety of ways.
My experience in the software industry spans products in the documentation, media, industrial automation, simulation, and pharmaceutical spaces; I have worked on small teams, and on large teams that were geographically dispersed.
As the lead information developer for Doc-To-Help, a Help Authoring Tool, I am proud to evangelize the technical communication profession via speaking, teaching, blogging, and writing.
