STC is your association. Please take a moment to get to know the candidates for the Society’s top elected positions. Links to the candidate information are at the bottom of this page.
Your Election Username and Password
STC members eligible to vote in the 2010 election will be emailed their election username and password on 2 March 2010. A paper ballot will be mailed to all individuals requesting one and to those for whom STC does not have a valid email address.
Eligible voters are members who either join or renew for the 2010 membership year by 28 February 2010. Please note that student members are not eligible to vote.
If you have not received your election username and password via email by 5 March 2010, please contact the STC Office at stc_election@stc.org or call +1 (703) 522-4114 to confirm that your email address is current. If possible, please add stc_election@stc.org to your list of approved addresses to ensure receipt of official election information.
Questions for Candidates
All candidates answered a series of questions posed by the Nominating Committee. Responses to these questions are available on each candidate’s page.
Members may also ask questions of the candidates. While the election and candidate information is open to all, only members may ask questions. To ensure fairness, all candidates for a particular office will have an opportunity to answer any questions that members might ask. Please note that candidates are not obligated to answer questions. For example:
- When you ask a question of one of the candidates for secretary, all candidates for that position get the question.
- When you ask a question to one of the candidates for director, all candidates for that position get the question.
- When you ask a question to one of the nominating committee, all candidates for that position will get the question.
The “Biography and Candidate Response to Questions” section (link under each candidate’s name) includes answers to both questions posed to candidates by the Nominating Committee and questions posed by members.
Reminder
The election slate reflects changes to the composition of the Society Board of Directors. Based on the results of the Knowledge-based Governance Survey of the membership conducted in August 2009, the STC Board of Directors voted during its 24 August 2009 meeting to amend the Society Bylaws to reflect the following position changes:
- Remove the Second Vice President position
- Remove one Director position
- Change Director terms to two years
- Allow Directors to serve two consecutive terms
A full copy of the revised bylaws is posted on the STC website.
During this transition year, there will be no election for first vice president. Michael Hughes, who is the current first vice president, is STC’s incoming president. Hillary Hart, who is the current second vice president, is STC’s incoming first vice president. Therefore, when you get your ballot, neither Michael’s nor Hillary’s name will appear.
During the 2011 election, the membership will vote for a new first vice president.
